Work, work, work…

15 Oct

Things I’m working on right now for this project:

  • Transcribing all the interviews (3,5h) which will take a lot of time, but is necessary to get all the information that are important
  • Sorting all the pictures made in Liverpool into folders like pictures regarding “Capital of Culture”, “Arts”, “run-down areas” and so on…
  • Working on a little side-project: During our stay in Liverpool we asked people to describe Liverpool in ONE sentence. We will use their answers to create a little movie. Watch out for that!

After the first step will be made (transcribing) in the near future I can start with the cutting. Right now I’m thinking a lot about how to arrange all the great shots and interviews to make the movie not just informative but also enjoyable. As soon as possible I will create a new trailer. I will try to get it online at least until christmas! That will be a wonderful present.

“Liverpool is near…”

5 Sep

Only four more days to go…

Right now I’m really excited and hope everything works fine. Right now I’m still working on writing down the questions for the interviews and answering the questions Dave from SevenStreets sent me. Visit his website the next days to read the interview!

Tomorrow I will get some cool buttons that we can wear during our stay in Liverpool so that everyone can recognize us as a member of  CityPicture. Watch out Liverpool!

The project is evolving…

20 Aug

What happened the last days?

1. I will participate at the pre-opening of the Biennial and there I will have the opportunity to take some interviews and I’m allowed to film there. Thanks to Diana Marrone for giving me this opportunity.

2. I will go to the “Touched Conference” on September the 18th.

3. Today I received an interview request from www.sevenstreets.com (you really have to visit that website!) and I’m really looking forward to it. And in return I will also interview David Lloyd, the creator of Sevenstreets.

I’m happy about how things are developing.

Third Interviewee + a lot of other artists!

5 Aug

I’ve got another interviewee and will visit a whole building full of artists! The building is an old warehouse at Parliament Street 27 which is now used by a lot of artists (more than 40). I will interview at least Peter Cameron from the Elevator Artists but can also be quite sure that I can have some more interviews with the other artists being around.

I’m also looking forward to enjoy some good tee or coffee in the Leaf Tea in the same building.

The Development of my Master Thesis

2 Aug

Idea

In 2009 I shot a documentary about the reinterpretation of the run-down harbour area from a 19th century international trade centre into a new space for artists.
While shooting the topic of Liverpool as the Capital of Culture in 2008 continued to be an important and criticized aspect.
From that I developed the idea of deepening the insight on what effects the Capital of Culture had on the independent artist scene within Liverpool.

Research Question and Theses

Thesis I:

Artists are important for the regeneration of run down urban quarters because they attract the public.

Thesis II:

The hosting of the European Capital of Culture and the associated investments have a debilitating effect on the independent art scene within a city.

Research Question:

Does the hosting of the European Capital of Culture and the associated investments have a debilitating effect on the independent art scene within Liverpool and as a consequence does this prevent an artist led regeneration of run down urban quarters?
